Medical Genetics Residency Program

The 2 year Medical Genetics Residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine/Detroit Medical Center is designed to provide an integrated experience in both clinical and laboratory genetics. Resident activities in clinical genetics are coordinated through the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics. The program prepares the trainee to care for both pediatric and adult patients with inherited disorders, and gain laboratory experience medical genetics. Our program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our Children's Hospital of Michigan Metabolic Clinic provides long term care for over 500 patients with metabolic disorders diagnosed through the Michigan Newborn Screening Program and is the only such clinic in the State of Michigan . Extensive clinical experience is gained during the 18 months spent in clinic and laboratory rotations. During the entire period of training, the resident attends weekly clinical genetics conferences, molecular and clinical genetics seminars and post-clinic conferences.

In order to be eligible for a residency in Medical Genetics, a resident must compete at least 2 years of residency training in a primary specialty, such as pediatrics, internal medicine or obstetrics/gynecology in an ACGME-accredited residency program or be enrolled in the Pediatrics-Medical Genetics Residency.

Inquiries about clinical training in Genetics should be addressed as indicated below, and any questions can best be answered by first forwarding a curriculum vitae and a cover letter to the address below.
