SURP: Summer Undergraduate Research Program
Training opportunities for laboratory research in Molecular Medicine and Genetics are available as part of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics educational mission. The research program is designed to benefit sophomore and junior undergraduate students through their participation in laboratory-based research in the areas of basic, translational and clinical science, as well as experience in presenting their experiences to peers and colleagues.
Areas of training include: the molecular biology of cancer, chromosome structure and function, gene regulation, molecular neurobiology, differentiation and development, genetic engineering and molecular evolution.
Students will benefit from daily training in the laboratory of a Center faculty member and attendance of weekly research seminars. Students participating in additional weekday courses during the summer at Wayne State or other institutions are not eligible for this research program. A stipend of $2,500 will be provided for the 12-week program. Please fill out and return the application along with a half page Statement of Purpose narrative, a current transcript and two letters of recommendation to the address below.
