Research Interests

Work in the Uddin research group focusses on investigating the molecular underpinnings of commonly occurring mood-anxiety disorders, with a particular emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We seek to identify genetic, epigenetic, and other biologic signatures associated with risk for, and resilience to, mental illness using samples drawn principally from community-based settings. Major areas of research include: characterizing genomic phenotypes of mental illness; assessing gene-environment interactions in psychiatric disorders; and investigating developmental differences in the molecular contributions to mental illness. Ongoing projects use genetic and genomic data obtained from large, population-based datasets, in order to provide population-level estimates of molecular and environmental risk factors that can inform interventions to reduce the burden of mental illness.
