Program Director

Photo Angela Trepanier, MS, CGC.
Angela Trepanier, MS, CGC. Ms. Trepanier is the Director of the Genetic Counseling Program and an assistant professor of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of Minnesota and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Her clinical interests include genetic risk assessment and counseling for cancer and other adult onset disorders. Other interests include promoting medical genetics education and evaluating educational approaches, developing public policy related to medical genetics and genetic counseling, and evaluating service delivery models. She is a past president of the National Society of Genetic Counselors, a founding board member of both the Michigan Association of Genetic Counselors and the National Society of Genetic Counselors’ Genetic Counseling Foundation, and a current board member for the National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics. Ms. Trepanier also sits on a number of national advisory committees.

Associate Director

Photo Gerald Feldman, MD, PhD.
Erin Carmany, MS, CGC. Ms. Carmany is the Associate Program Director of the Genetic Counseling Program and an assistant professor of Molecular Medicine and Genetics.  She received a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in Zoology with a concentration in Genetics, a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.  She has clinical experience in reproductive genetics, pediatric genetics and telephonic genetic counseling.   She has been a clinical supervisor for both the Northwestern University and Wayne State University Genetic Counseling Programs.   She is fluent in Spanish and has a particular interest in the provision of genetic counseling services in the Spanish speaking population.  She has been involved in several professional organizations and has been a board member of the Genetic Task Force of Illinois and the Michigan Association of Genetic Counselors.

Medical Director

Gerald Feldman, MD, PhD. Dr. Feldman is the Director of Clinical Genetics Services, Director of the Medical Genetics Residency Program, Medical Director of the Genetics Laboratories, and Medical Director of Genetic Counseling Program. He is a professor in Molecular Medicine and Genetics, Pathology and Pediatrics. Dr. Feldman obtained his PhD and MD from the Medical College of Virginia. He did a pediatric residency and postdoctoral fellowships in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Biochemical/Molecular Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. He is Board-certified in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Biochemical/Molecular Genetics. Dr. Feldman coordinates patient care in the genetics clinics of the Detroit Medical Center. His research interests include newborn screening of inborn errors of metabolism and the molecular diagnosis of genetic disorders. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Medical Genetics.

Administrative Assistant

Lydia Knight, M M/HRM. Ms. Knight is the administrative assistant for the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program. She is the primary liaison for the department providing administrative support to faculty, staff, students and the general public. Her principle responsibilities include responding to program inquires, maintaining applicant admissions information, monitoring fiscal expenses, and communicating and disseminating pertinent program information.
