                                Program Directors


Angela Trepanier, MS, CGC.
Ms. Trepanier is the Director of the Genetic Counseling Program and an assistant professor of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. She received her Masters of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of Minnesota and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Her clinic interests include genetic risk assessment and counseling for cancer and other adult onset disorders. Other interests include promoting medical genetics education, working on public policy related to medical genetics and genetic counseling, and understanding the natural history and pathophysiology of Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease and other PLP1-gene related disorders. She is currently the Immediate Past President of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and a member of the Board of Directors’ of both the Genetic Counseling Foundation and the National Coalition for Healthcare Provider Education in Genetics.

Carin L. Yates, MS, CGC. Ms. Yates is the Associate Director of the Genetic Counseling Program and an assistant professor of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. She received her Masters of Science in Medical and Molecular Genetics from Indiana University, is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, and is a Licensed Genetic Counselor through the State of Illinois. Prior to her arrival at Wayne State University, Carin was an Instructor at Northwestern University in Chicago where she specialized in providing reproductive genetics services and was actively involved in the training of genetic counseling students, medical students, residents, and fellows through formal teaching, research mentorship, and clinical supervision. She has a long-standing interest in the genetics of infertility and the associated genetic counseling challenges. Carin has previously co-chaired the NSGC Assisted Reproductive Technologies special interest group.

Medical Director

Gerald Feldman, MD, PhD.
Dr. Feldman is the Director of Clinical Genetics Services, Director of the Medical Genetics Residency Program, Director of the Molecular Genetics Diagnostic Laboratory, and Medical Director of Genetic Counseling Program. He is a professor in Molecular Medicine and Genetics, Pathology and Pediatrics. Dr. Feldman obtained his PhD and MD from the Medical College of Virginia. He did a pediatric residency and postdoctoral fellowships in clinical genetics and clinical biochemical/molecular genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board certified in pediatrics, clinical genetics and clinical biochemical/ molecular genetics. Dr. Feldman coordinates patient care in all the genetics clinics of the Detroit Medical Center. His research interests include the molecular diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and the development of expanded newborn screening for genetic conditions. He is currently President of the Association of Professors of Human and Medical Genetics and a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Medical Genetics..
