Tyler graduated with a BS in Pre-Professional Biology from Brigham Young University-Hawaii. When he arrived back home in Alberta, he worked with a boy affected with a genetic disease who had a big impact on him. Tyler found work at that time as an in-home aide with children with developmental concerns. To gain direct experience in a genetic counseling setting, he completed an “Applied Study in Genetic Counseling” at the genetics outreach clinic in Lethbridge, Alberta. Since then, he moved to the Windsor-Detroit area for the privilege to work as a Genetic Counselor Assistant in the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. He additionally has volunteered with the Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast Michigan, the Canadian Red Cross, and the AIDS Outreach Community Harm Reduction Education and Support Society. In his free time, Tyler enjoys playing the piano, playing soccer, and spending time with his wife and three young sons.
